== 特徴 ==
みずがめ座88番星は、[[スペクトル型]]がK1 IIIに分類される橙色[[巨星]]である{{R|bsc5}}。[[半径]]は[[太陽半径|太陽]]の30倍近く、[[質量]]は[[太陽質量|太陽]]の2倍程度とみられる。表面[[温度]]は約4,470[[ケルビン|K]]、[[光度 (天文学)|光度]]は[[太陽光度|太陽]]の300倍程度と見積もられている{{R|srq18}}。

みずがめ座88番星は、比較的近距離にある巨星であり、しかも、安定している単独星で、変光も[[赤外超過]]も示さないことから、[[赤外線]][[干渉計]]による恒星の[[視直径]]測定に当たって、較正のための比較星として利用される{{R|rp05|pott08}}。

みずがめ座88番星は、進化が進んで巨星となっているが、[[赤色巨星分枝]]段階にあるか、[[水平分枝]]段階にあるかについては、議論となっている。最近の分析では、4:1の確からしさで、水平分枝にある方がもっともらしいとされている{{R|srq18}}。
