== 経歴 ==
彼の家は[[ボーデン湖]]近辺の[[リンダウ]]より来ている。[[チューリッヒ大学]]で学んだ。1865年、[[バーゼル大学]]の数学教授に任命され、1908年の引退まで務めた。彼は数学教育の全責任を負っていた。 1867年、バーゼルに帰還した。彼は[[統計家]]として、1870年にバーゼルでスイス統計学会（the Swiss Statistical Society）とStatistical-economic societyを創設し、1880年にバーゼルで{{仮リンク|連邦統計局 (スイス)|en|Federal Statistical Office (Switzerland)|label=連邦統計局}}を導いた。スイス統計学会では1877年-1886年の間会員であった。

キンケリンの作品は[[ガンマ関数]]、[[級数|無限級数]]、不等角投影図の[[空間幾何学]]などを扱っている。キンケリンは、[[保険数理]]と統計分野で60以上の出版物を公表した。 彼はバーゼルの "mortality and age checkout"（後には"Patria, Swiss life insurance company Mutual"）の創設者である。
